Great Introductory Lesson with an Awesome Group

I recently had the pleasure of sailing with Captain Jim as well as a few members of 3rd Coast Charters and some other first timers. I had not sailed in several years and have been looking to get back into the sport for quite some time. I had two excellent afternoons over the weekend sailing and relearning many things I had forgotten with time. The rates are reasonable, and the website is easy to navigate. In my opinion, there is much more availability and flexibility at 3rd Coast in comparison to the other sailing organizations I looked into in Chicago. I will certainly be back for additional sails in the months to come.

Punta Gorda to Key West Trip

It was a real participatory sailing adventure. I was given the opportunity to try my hand at just about any task on the sailboat I felt up to—even taking a turn at the helm, trimming the sails, and helping drop and raise the anchor.

The knowledgeable captain and his crew were very accommodating and we could be as hands-on as we wished with sailing the boat, or just sit back and enjoy the scenery with a cool drink in one hand and a fishing pole in the other. I felt that we were in good hands and would have a care-free and fun experience regardless of our interest level in learning to sail.

It was an amazing experience I won't soon forget. I am looking forward to my next exciting sailing adventure with 3rd Coast Charters. How can they beat their round trip to Cuba? I can't wait to find out.

Punta Gorda to Key West to Cuba Trip

Seven of us recently sailed for two weeks, starting in Punta Gorda, Florida to Key West, and then on to Cuba and back, on a well-equipped and comfy catamaran. It made for a great adventure and a life time of memories. Everything was well-planned, with the safety of the crew always first and foremost. On top of that we were well-provisioned and able to check out some very cool places.

One of the best aspects, however, was the opportunity to learn by doing, whether that meant hoisting and trimming the sails, pitching in with typical boat duties, charting our course, or manning the helm. I have been sailing with 3rd Coast going on four years. In that time I have sailed off the coast of Chicago, been to Belize, various ports in Florida and across the Gulf of Mexico.

This particular sailing charter has a lot to offer. It's definitely not a Royal Caribbean yacht type of experience, but much better, especially if you are looking for adventure and excitement, while at the same time honing your sailing skills. The people are friendly. The camaraderie is awesome. I definitely would recommend 3rd Coast Charters if you'd like to meet new, like-minded people. Sailing with 3rd Coast, whether for one outing, an extended weekend, or a week-long adventure, will have you coming back for more. The good news is their ship “Latitude Adjustment” will be in Chicago this summer.
